Parliament has said  Knowsley  Council should continue to have 66 local Borough
Councillors elected from its 22 wards for terms of 4 years each. However from 2002 
Knowsley ( and other Borough Councils) must be run in one of  three ways.
1.By a political leader elected by the Councillors together with a cabinet.
  A Civic Mayor would continue to carry out present duties.
2.By a Mayor directly elected for  4 years supported by a cabinet of Councillors.
3.By a Mayor directly elected every 4 years supported by a Council Manager
  In options 2 & 3 new arrangements would need to be found for Civic Mayoralty
Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council for the next two months is carrying out a
public consultation as to which options it should adopt. Leaflets will be distributed.
